Spring Sport Season Canceled

Dear WAMS Athletes and Families,
We know that you have all been waiting to hear about our spring sports season. It has been disheartening to have waited to get to spring, planned for an exciting athletic season, run tryouts and started practices only to have everything grind to an abrupt halt. Like you, we all love sports and believe in the benefits that participation provides for children, teens, and adults.

So, we are sad that we are in this position.Yesterday, NJ Governor Murphy made his announcement that schools will remain closed until May 15th (at least). Our middle school league does not see a path forward for a spring season. Some districts have already cancelled their season. As you are aware, we typically end our season before Memorial Day, so it will be impossible, even if we extended it into early June, to get in a meaningful sports season. And of course, the other factor here is safety---would it even be safe for athletes and coaches to try being together in a group for practices and games? We do not think so.

Therefore, sadly, we are cancelling the WAMS spring athletic season. As a pay to participate non-profit, we are in a unique financial situation. We have financial obligations and need to pay our bills as well as pay our tremendously loyal coaches for the commitment they made and the time they put in. With that in mind, we will begin issuing athletes refunds for their participation fees. You will be receiving a refund directly to your credit card from Sports Connect minus a small service charge so we may meet our financial obligations and keep the WAMSAO solvent. We want to be back in Fall to offer the same great teams and programs to middle school students. Please be patient as the processing of fees will take place over the next few weeks.

The WAMSAO Board appreciates your support and understanding. Please take care of yourselves and know that I, along with the AO Board, hope to see you all back on a field or in a gym next year.
